BQ2060A Development Kit

I just received a TI gas gauge kit for the BQ2060A.  I had an older unit for the BQ2013, that worked for me.  I am curious because according to the schematic for the new development board, the VCC for the board is derived from the battery pack (PACK+).  With the old BQ2013, a 4 cell Ni-Mh pack was about 4.8V so no worry about too much  VCC input for the BQ2013.  With a 4 cell Li-Ion pack you are looking at about 14.8V, the max rated spec for VCC on the BQ2060A is 6V, so what happens when you try hooking up to that large a voltage from the Li-Ion pack.  The only thing between the PACK+ voltage and the VCC of the chip is a small FET (SST113).  I was tempted to
remove that FET & power the BQ2060A board from the 5V regulator on the EV2200 interface board.
