Part Number:CC3100MOD
I´m new to RF circuits, but I took a fairly good read these days, and started doing my designs around CC3100MOD for a custom 2layer PCB.
I started by following the layout guidelines found on CC3100MOD datasheet. In it´s datasheet at Table 6.2 and 6.3 TI gives the recommended values for PCB coplanar waveguides parameters, such as gap, width and core high. Both for for 2 and 4 layers. I took the time to simulate those values in Saturn PCB
as expected we can see it got pretty close to what was recommended by TI .
However in the same datasheet they recommend you to follow their design antenna to get the FCC certificated. Due to that I downloaded the Design files of the CC3100MODBOOST, to get it´s gerber files.
In CC3100MODBOOST´s assembly file LINK, they make clear to be using a 2layer PCB with a core of ~38mil and copper of ~1.8mil in both sides, due to that i was hoping to find as defined in the CC3100MOD datasheet a track width of 35mils instead of the 20mils as it is.
So making it short here are the questions:
- Why are they not using the 35 mils as suggested for the 2layers design? Are they compensating the mismatch of 50ohms in the PI matching?
- If using the 35mils as suggested the track will get too big for the manufacturer antenna layout AH316 LINK . Due to that will I need to do some necking before getting to the matching circuit?
