CC1101 does not go into receive mode on issuing SRX

Hey all!

I'm an undergraduate student working on using CC1101 as a receiver using msp430. On issuing, SRX, the chip status byte is either 0x0f (CC1101 remains in idle mode) or 0x4f (calibrate mode). Before issuing SRX, SFRX and SCAL are respectively issued. Any ideas on why receive mode doesn't turn on or on how to fix this?
