Programing a MSP 430 series 5 ucrocontroler

I owe a MSP 430 value line development board, but as ive read on the page, it only mentions it can program value line devices and they do not have RTCs.

I need to the help of a real time clock in my design. and i have two options.

1. to buy a SPI/I2C real time clock and then connect it to the msp430 value line

2. buy a new programmer such as MSP-FET430UIF  and program a chip with a RTC.

Is there a cheap debugger than this? or is there a better sollution known to this problem?

p.s. suppose I have a low voltage series MSP 430, is the only way to prgram this specific IC is through the MSP-FET430UIF?
