MSP430F5529: Unable to download and debug my code

Part Number:MSP430F5529

Hello,

I'm using the IAR Embedded Workbench 7.11.3 for my MSP430F5529.  I've been working on this project for a month now and it is normally fine, but today I tried to Download and Debug but got this error message "Emulator.  Communication error. Please connect the device and press Retry to reconnect, or press Cancel to abort" (see image below).

I've gotten this message before, and previously, I just close down another program (Labview), close IAR, and re-ran IAR, and it's fine.  But today, this solution did not work.

I've searched for this error elsewhere, found a potential solution as suggested in this post https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp430/f/166/t/58343?Communication-Error-with-MSP430F2132,

I'm trying to compile a debug version of the SimpleLink library, but I'm not seeing a debug configuration.  I'm looking under the build configurations and the only options are "rtos" and "nortos".  Nothing else.  I'm using SDK 2.10.00.4 and CC Studio 8.0.0.00016.  Any guidance would be appreciated.

AM4379: AM43xx EMIF Tool: READ_LAT[4:0] Value Error

Part Number:AM4379

Hi,

Background

I am using the AM43xx EMIF Tool: Register Configuration Revision 1.0 from the AM43xx EMIF Tools report for a device connected to a single DDR3L at a PLL clock of 303MHz and 16 bit data bus.

Issue

Once the spreadsheet was configured for the system details,  DDR3L device timings, and board details, the interface was not working. The issue was found to be related to the READ_LAT[4:0] bits of the EMIF4D_DDR_PHY_CTRL_1 register which was set to '8' when the CAS Latency on the :"Step2-DDR Timings" sheet was set to 6 tCK. Manually updating the READ_LAT value to '9' resulted in a working memory interface.

Question

The TRM description for the READ_LAT bits indicates the EMIF will expect data at reg_read_latency + 3 clock cycles which would result in a READ_LAT setting of '9' when CAS Latency is set to 6 tCK instead of '8'. Is the READ_LAT cell in the EMIF tool using a + 3 or + 2 offset from the CAS Latency setting? Does this need to be updated?

Part Number:TPS65132

For the TPS65132 under very light load conditions, the part enters DCM and switches at 30KHz region, which is interfering with another part of the design.

1. What load level would get the part to switch to CCM?

2. Is there an alternative part which would operate in CCM only, even at very light loads?  (disables, DCM)

CCS/CC1310: ticloudagent.sh and libudev.so.0 on Debian

Hi,

I'm using the web based CCS in firefox (it wouldn't work in chrome) on an up-to-date Debian/unstable system (Linux debian 4.16.0-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.16.5-1 (2018-04-29) x86_64 GNU/Linux).

However, I had to modify the ticloudagent.sh script to get it to work, so I'm reporting the changes here. Firstly, ldconfig is not typically in an unprivileged user's path, so it needs to be run as /sbin/ldconfig. And secondly, the line

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$CA_TEMPDIR

needs to be

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$CA_TEMPDIR

in order for the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable to be visible to the node command at the end of the file.

Cheers,

Brett.

Linux/AM4376: Issue with WoW interrupt pin

Part Number:AM4376

Tool/software: Linux

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue on a custom board using AM4376, linux 4.4.19, with WoW not working. We want to change the interrupt pin, which is gpio0[19] in TI documentation (cf patch in following link), to gpio0[14].

The problem come from the interrupt pin not working as expected. For easy debugging we've put a button on gpio0[14] (K21). Value is set to 1 by default, and set to 0 when pushed.

We put our board in suspend to ram using "echo mem > /sys/power/state", and try to wake up using out button, but this is not working (nothing happen). For information, we can successfully wake up using uart0.

I've modified DTS following this documentation , and more precisely this patch.

I've made the same test on several available GPIO (gpio4[8] and gpio 4[11]), with the same result.

The main question is: can we use another GPIO than gpio0[19] as mentioned in the patch ? Do we need to configure something else than DTB ?

Thanks for your help.

Best regards,

J.L.

Hi all,

I am using XDS110 debugger for debugging my CC3200 based custom board.

I changed my Target configuration according to XDS110 debugger settings.

I also run "TEST CONNECTION" which shows my JTAG connections are ok.

Now, when i am trying to debug it is showing me this error:-

"error in connecting target. Please check you connections.. "

When i am using CC3200 Launchpad Emulator section to debug my custom board it was working fine, i believe there is no hardware problem with my new board.

So, please suggest me some points so that i can resolve this problem.

LAUNCHXL-CC2650: Tips for an RFID project?

Part Number:LAUNCHXL-CC2650

Hi there,

I am new to the CC2650 launchpad. It's a really cool platform but a lot needs to be learned. I want use it for an RFID project specifically for low frequencies (100 - 150kHz). Is this is achievable using the CC2650? The design will use a custom analog front end module. I want to use the CC2650 to process the data obtained via the RF link and send it to a connected device(Bluetooth).

I would appreciate if you could give me some inputs on the same.

1) What will I require for the project(headers, etc?) - Does TI have any header files for RFID projects?

2) Are there any example RFID projects using TI's products, that I could take a look at?

3) Can I work on an exisitng project example or will I have to create a new project from scratch?

4) What additional information should be aware when dealing with CC2650 and RFID?

Best,

AM

  Hello,

I am using MSP430FR5969 LP with CCS using Energia Sketch and Enerytrace technology also, So according to my code when MCU is in sleep mode it consumes more than 500uA power but in the Energy trace state Diagram show truly in LPM4 mode. So please share some LPM4 mode code on Energia or Driverlib software.

Connection Configuration:

  1. All Uart and EZ-fet jumpers are removed
  2. J2 AsBypass mode
  3. J10 as external
  4. J12 for 3.3V in power source
  5. J9 Multimeter Current Probe connected in Current measurement mode.
  6. J13 All jumper open
  7. J11 for supercap Charge is also open.

Energia Sketch code:

void setup()
{
 pinMode(RED_LED, OUTPUT);
 pinMode(PUSH1, INPUT_PULLUP);
 attachInterrupt(PUSH1, interrupt, FALLING);
}

void loop()
{

  for (int i = 0; i < 5; i++)
  {
    digitalWrite(RED_LED, HIGH);
    delay(2000);
    digitalWrite(RED_LED, LOW);
    delay(2000);
  }

  suspend();
}
void interrupt()
{
  wakeup();
}

Please find attached Pictures of Energy Trace window.

Thanks  in Advance.

Hello,

i noticed that Energia code is so simple and easy and I compiled with CSS IDE and working well debugging also so can you suggest if I use this same IDE and Means Energia and other my wireless GSM module code on same board for commercial product is there any issue instability or any type of reliability with this easy process? in short sir Energia With CSS Ide is best for commercial product software development or not?

Because I am designing an IoT Low power wireless fill level measurement sensor which supplied with 3.6V LiSoCl2 Battery but previously I used Atmel MCU and Ping sensor for measuring distance and Atmel Studio IDE for software development but now I realize Energia code is too easy and debugging also so please suggest me Energia With CSS Ide is good for me or not?

I attached a schematic of my project which I developed and currently in Testing phase and installed on nearby streets Dustbins. But I am not satisfied with this design because of fill level measurements still not precise so I decided, I will redesign this sensor with MSP 430 Ultra Low power MCU, TPS61021A for power booster from the 3.6v LiSoCl2 battery and PGA 460 for distance measurement.

Please suggest me a Better option.

TINA/Spice/OPA377: OPA377 Input Offset voltage impact and simulation

Part Number:OPA377

Tool/software:TINA-TI or Spice Models

First of all, thank you for the TI Precision Labs! Really helpful.

Spoiler: As I was writing this question, I believe I found the answer...

I would like to confirm the impact of Vos to my circuit, simulate it if possible and eventually, to obtain a transfer function.
OPA377 simulation confirms the typical datasheet values. (See TI Precision Labs - Op Amps: Vos and Ib)

Following  suggestion (see related question) I inserted a voltage source in series with the positive input terminal of the OpAmp.

The circuit shown here is the superposition simplification of the circuit of interest, which only includes Vos.
As the gain is expected to be 1+(6.8k/200) = 35; I thought I would expect 35mV, but as you can see, the simulation shows 25.82mV

Then, I realized, this simulation model requires approximately 300uV to drive the output to Zero, thus I decided to run a "Vos" sweep, between -1mV and 1.3mV.

As expected, because my power rails work between 0 and 5V, I see "zero" until Vos is greater than 300uVL and I see 36.2mV output at 1.3mV Input

Questions

  1. Could this confirm my assumption that the Vos impact would be given by the following simple formula: Vout(Vos) = (1+6.8k/200) * Vos
  2. Why do I see a slight difference: 36.2mV (simulation) vs 35mV (Theoretical)

Thanks!

Alberto

CCS/LAUNCHXL-F28069M: ADC: The signal measurements oscillate if the frequency changes

Part Number:LAUNCHXL-F28069M

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi Everyone.

This is Mike, I want to thank you all for your support.

I take again the project I left out. So the problem I'm having right now is about the mesurement of the signal's voltage.

I coded a True RMS voltmeter so It has an error of 40 mV, I think this is not pretty bad

My waveform of input is a pretty sine of 60 Hz, and my measure, as an example, is 3V in the oscilloscope. In the same way, the true rms measures the same voltage

Then If change the frequency, just to say, 58.9 Hz, my measure starts to oscillate  2.78 V to 3.02V

When I graph the signal, It is like if the waveform is clipped.

I think it is something aabout the Period and Compare of the PWM but I don't know how to fix it.

Regards

Mike

UCC28780: Worksheet Gripe

Part Number:UCC28780

Don't get me wrong -- I am really grateful for the Mathcad worksheets provided in sluc644.  Without them, designing a power supply around this chip would be nearly impossible.

But on the other hand, if there is one small thing wrong in there the whole house of cards comes tumbling down.  I am working through the "Neutron" worksheet now for my design and ROPP is coming out negative.  Now what do I do?  There is a dense forest of equations, formulas, and dependencies leading up to the calculation of ROPP and it's excruciating trying to work through them with only a partial knowledge of what is being done.

These worksheets are a tremendous time saver when they work, but when something goes wrong it's as if they don't exist.  You are suddenly left with trying to figure the design out from scratch in order to fix the worksheet.

So I'm just asking the developers and documenters to be as careful and complete with these worksheets as possible.  I know it's really difficult to get them done in time to support the product, but we users depend on them and have to trust them in our ignorance.  As soon as they fail they are as good as useless.

Well, I've spent an hour trying to trace through my ROPP failure now, and 10 minutes to gripe about it here, so back I go.
