F28M35xx ControlCard won't work with DRV8312EVM

I bought the DRV8312-69M-KIT and successfully ran a motor with it.  Our proposed processor is of the F28M35xx variety and so I bought an F28M35xx ControlCard to plug into the DRV8312EVM board.  On my custom developed code when I try to debug the code hangs with the following showing: "GEL Expression: OnTargetConnect()" and never recovers.  When I try to run an example code from controlSuite such as blinky() I get this error message:  "Error connecting to target: (Error -1135 0x0)".  What do I need to do to get this working?
