AM3359: RTC can't work continuously

I am using the silicon revision 2.1 .

The RTC can't work continuously since the internal button cell will be out of power quickly.

I reference TI‘s hardware design.

So,was it the fault of software design?

What should i notice when i design my software to prevent anything else lose the battery charge.
