Part Number:LM2854
I have a legacy product with a LM2854MH-500 used to produce 3.3V rail (2A to 3A output) from 5V input. The 5V input is sourced from a LM22676.See below.
This design has proved reliable in the field for 7-8 years.
Recently we have seen a number of the LM2854 fail with the output short circuit to GND (2 or 3 out of 20 shipments)
These installations differ in that they use a 13.6V float (on a 12V SLA Battery) as the 12V input. Although that difference suggests it must be related I can see no obvious reason for it to cause problems (and if it did I would expect the LM22676 to fail instead?)
Putting the component values into Webench seems to suggest the design is satisfactory (albeit not the component values Webench itself proposes)
