BQ40Z80EVM-020: Timeout or unexpected response communicating with device

Hello, 

I am trying to use the evaluation board for the bq40z80.  When trying to interface it with the bqStudio 1.3.86, I can not seem to communicate with the bq40z80 properly.

It seems to be able to pull the temperature, but that is it..

The software is unable to read the Data Memory, or write to them.  I also can not write to the Firmware.

I have attempted to read pins TS3 and TS4 to see if there is a pulse upon pressing the "Wake" button, but see no pulses.

I updated the on-board EV2400 chip to the latest firmware, V0.28.  No changes in operation..

Any advice?
