BOOSTXL-AOA: Question about range, accuracy and specs?

Part Number: BOOSTXL-AOA

Hi, I am researcher from Sheridan College Centre of Mobile Innovation in Oakville, Canada. My team and I have created an indoor positioning system using Bluetooth 4.2 beacons as a transmitter. We used rssi and several filters to improve our accuracy. The problem with just using rssi is that it does not let one know which angle the beacon packet is received from. So we need Angle of Arrival to improve our solution. Our expertise is software so we want to do as minimal amount of hardware modification as possible.

Before we purchase the BoasterBoard we had several question to ask. Number one is the range it can calculate, from the specs I see that the BoasterBoard has 3 antenna switches. Can it calculate angle of the packet from a 360 degree scope or is it less than that? The second question is that Angle of Arrival is something that was introduced in Bluetooth 5.1 specification. From your website I can see the Angle of Arrival solution is based on Bluetooth 5.0. Why is that? Finally, what other parts do you recommend buying with the BoasterBoard to make the solution work? Our expertise is software, so we want to do as minimal modification as possible, If we buy the BoasterBoard and development board will there be any modification we will need to make?

Regards,

Saud
