DOES FIRMWARE NEED FOR CC2541 BLUETOOTH CHIP

hi all.

                     I am going to use cc2541 bluetooth chip  not module . And going to interface with my controller (ATMEL). Any code has to been written  seperatly for this chip to work?

 or just want to interface is enough? please clarify it .
