LAUNCHXL-F28379D: Cab the F28379D control more than 2 PMSM motors, or can two F28379D's be controlled simultaneously?

I want to control more than 2 (specifically 3) PMSM motors with QEPs along the same lines as shown in the application report titled "Dual Motor Control Using FCL and Performance Analysis Using SFRA on TMS320F28379D LaunchPad".

I know a single F28379D can control two PMSMs with QEPs, but can a single F28379D control 3? I know there's only enough pins for 2 QEPs, but is there some creative way around this?

If the answer is no, can two F28379Ds be controlled simultaneously so that I can have a single project control both F28379Ds?
