AM3357: Booting from 8-bit raw NAND flash

Part Number:AM3357

Hello!

We have been used the AM3357 in a bare metal context with an own SPL for a few years.

Now, we are getting into trouble during the booting of the AM3357 because we switched from 16 bit raw NAND flash to 8 bit raw NAND flash. Both of them have an ONFi structure.

With 16 bit raw NAND flash (Macronix MX30UF1G16AC)  and BCH error correction code (8 bits can be corrected) the boot ROM is able to load and start the SPL.
With 8 bit NAND (MX30UF1G18AC) and the same error correction code the boot ROM is not longer able to load and start the SPL. There are no other changes within the circuit or the board than changing the NAND flash, which should be compatible according to the pins.

The tracing vectors shows the following:

With a firmware loaded by the JTAG interface I'm able to read and write the 16bit and the 8bit version of the NAND flashes. I dumped the content of the SPL in block 0 of the NAND flashes in both versions and they are
identical. You will find the dumps attached.

Do you know any problems concerning the boot ROM if it shall load the SPL from an 8 bit NAND flash with BCH error correction code (8 bits correctable)?
Do you have any hints to solve the problem?

Thanks for your support and kind regards,
Sven
