SD with MSP430

Hi,

I 'm trying to interface an MSP430F5529 with an SD card. i already know all the connections i need to make the SPI interface with the MSP430. the next step is the code to use. I look for example of Code and i download a sample of code (http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slaa281). this code has been use to interface MSP430F161x with a MMC card. my questions are:

what will be the best way to start coding and understand what i m doing?

can i use this sample of Code with my MSP430 if i make the changes needed? or it will take to much time
