I would like to use DRV8801 to drive a 12V solenoid and I am thinking about using TPS55330 to supply 12V to DRV8801 to drive the solenoid. Do I need to put a diode in-between TPS55330 and DRV8801 to protect TPS55330 from the regeneration current and voltage spike as a result of the solenoid (inductive load)?
However, when I read the post below (tips for solenoid driving), it appears one of the advantage of using DRV8801 is fast delay and the regeneration current is heading back to the supply (recirculation path). Would TPS55330 be able to handle this operation?
