BQ28550 - Current Measurement timeframe

I have a question regarding the bq28550 datasheet information, about the way it measures the current.

Quoting:

"Current Measurement
The device has a FIFO buffer, which uses the last four Coulomb counter readings to calculate the current. The
current is updated every 1 s in normal mode."

What I'm trying to figure out is the way the current value is calculated before updating the value.

The statement "uses the last four Coulomb counter readings to calculate the current"  leaves me with some doubts.

Are those four previous readings performed in one second or do they refer to the 4 values of teh previous 4 seconds.

The reason for the question is the application this bq28550 is supposed to be used on. There will be very fast changes on the current and it is needed to be seen by the fuel gauge. So a sample rate of 1 second will not be fast enough for getting the right information.

Thanking you in advance for a prompt response,

Best Regards
