Upgrading from L293 chip

Hi,

I am newbie to motor control and I have been tasked to upgrade from a L293B Chip to a PWM chip controlled by a micro.

Looking at the datasheet the L293B is a Push-Pull Four Channel Drivers 1A per channel.

What PWM 1A TI chip would you recommend to replace the L293B.

All help/ input and tutorials gladly accepted.
