Part Number:66AK2H14
Hi
Some questions about the 10GbE interface on the 66AK2H14 :
When looking at the SPRS866G datasheet, paragraph 11.19.1, we can find a reference to 10GBASE-KR, and also XFI, but whitout any other precise information.
When looking at the SPRUHJ5 10Gigabit Ethernet Subsystem User Guide, we get more details : the chip is announced to be compliant with 10GBASE-R and XFI SFF 8077i.
When looking at the SPRUH03A Serdes User Guide, the chip is announced to be compliant with 10GBase-R , 10GBase-KR and also XFI.
1) Since all this documents do not exactly specify the same functionalities, can you confirm :
- that 66AK2H14"XFI()" interface respect the 10GBase-R specification, at the behavioural level, and also at the electrical level
- that 66AK2H14"XFI()" interface respect the 10GBase-KR specification, at the behavioural level, and also at the electrical level
- that 66AK2H14"XFI()" interface respect the XFI SFF 8077i specification, at the behaviourallevel, and also at the electrical level
2) For our current hardware platformn we are going to connect 66AK2H14 from different boards , by 10Gb/s "XFI()" differential pairs running through backplane.
Therefore we are expecting the -KR compliancy to really be operational - electrically - and also behavioural because the training process between driver and receiver will be essential.
Do you see any pitfall to avoid here ?
More specifically, I read (still §11.4) that the -KR compliancy was NOT entirely performed by hardware and thus was requiring a "manual" launch from the user of a dedicated firmware routine.
I understand that some register flags/commands are implemented so that the user can activate this procedure, BUT can you explain which registers are concerned here, and which flags please ?
Another question relates to potential synchronisation requirements : since both 66AKH14 partners are located on different boards, and running different activities, each of them might launch this firmware routine at a very different moment.
==> is there a timing window to respect once one of the 2 partners enters the above-mentioned -KR start-up procedure ?
3) Another question : when connecting 2 different AK2H14 through 10Gb/s XFI links, I guess that using XFIMDIO and XFIMDCLK is not necessary nor usefull nor relevant. Do you agree ?
4) Last : I am a bit surprised to read ( SPRUHJ5 §1.5 : standard compliance statement ) "10/100/1000BASE-T" because as far as I know a single 1000Base-T interface involves transmisison over diff pairs using PAM5 modulation..a.s.o...
Therefore it seems very unlikely that 66AK2H14 SGMII supports electrical hardware compliancy with 1000BASE-T. Can you clarify please ?
With best regards
Bruno
