Don't get me wrong -- I am really grateful for the Mathcad worksheets provided in sluc644. Without them, designing a power supply around this chip would be nearly impossible.
But on the other hand, if there is one small thing wrong in there the whole house of cards comes tumbling down. I am working through the "Neutron" worksheet now for my design and ROPP is coming out negative. Now what do I do? There is a dense forest of equations, formulas, and dependencies leading up to the calculation of ROPP and it's excruciating trying to work through them with only a partial knowledge of what is being done.
These worksheets are a tremendous time saver when they work, but when something goes wrong it's as if they don't exist. You are suddenly left with trying to figure the design out from scratch in order to fix the worksheet.
So I'm just asking the developers and documenters to be as careful and complete with these worksheets as possible. I know it's really difficult to get them done in time to support the product, but we users depend on them and have to trust them in our ignorance. As soon as they fail they are as good as useless.
Well, I've spent an hour trying to trace through my ROPP failure now, and 10 minutes to gripe about it here, so back I go.
