BQ51050B: Charging current lower than specified in datasheet

Part Number:BQ51050B

Hello,

We are planning to use the BQ51050B as a wireless charger for a medical device. We intend to charge a battery at a max Ibulk of 60mA, but the datasheet mentions that the minimum Ibulk is 500mA. As this will be used in a mass-produced medical device, we need to prove that everything works according to the intended use stated in the datasheet. I know it is possible to set Ibulk to 60mA by setting the right resistor value, but this would not be according to the datasheet. Is it possible to receive a formal declaration/statement from TI that the BQ51050B is able to work with lower charging currents, or should I look at other solutions such as TIDA-00668 with the combination of bq51003 and bq25100? I hope this can be prevented as the design has very strict size constraints and we hope to save the space required for the bq25100.

Best regards,

Wout
